This comic began when my college newspaper was expanding the comics section, and they needed
some things to fill the space. I responded with something called "Cartoons in 60 seconds, where
one of my friends would time me, and I'd come up with and idea and draw it in 60 seconds. I think
the only people who really understood the concept and liked it were other art students and theatre
majors. The people who liked it really liked it though. It was fun, but I wanted to draw something
else too. Then the obvious popped into my head.

At the time, I had in my sketchbook a character named Evan that I created way back in 1996. With
the advent of the comics page, I now had the chance to finally put him in a context, so I created a
world for him to inhabit, and people to interact with. Now all it needed was a name.

I couldn't think of a name, and it was due in like an hour, so the best I could come up with was
"The End of Things." I remember not liking it a whole lot, but it was something. One of my roommates
really liked it so I said "Why the hell not?" Here is an awful picture of the awful original:

Even with the nearly illegible lettering, I thought to myself, "Wow! I made a comic!" and it was one
of the coolest feelings in the world. I still have that feeling now.
